GST Invoice Generator for India — Free
By Innvoic
If you bill clients in India, your invoices need a specific shape: GST quoted per line, INR with Indian digit grouping, and usually a UPI code the client can scan to pay. This free generator covers that workflow: line items with per-line GST percentages, an invoice-level tax field, proper INR formatting, and scannable UPI payment QR codes in the on-screen preview. You add your GST rate where it belongs; the tool handles the arithmetic. No signup, no fees, no watermark on the PDF.
Built for how India invoices
Freelancers and small businesses in India bill in rupees, quote with GST, and get paid over UPI, so the generator starts from that workflow. Amounts format with Indian digit grouping (₹1,00,000, not ₹100,000). Set your GST percentage per line item or once for the whole invoice; tax totals compute live in the preview. Turn on the payment QR code, enter your UPI ID, and the on-screen preview shows a scannable code for the exact amount due. The downloaded PDF lists UPI as the payment method in text. Numbering follows your prefix (INV-1001…). Switch the document type to estimate or proforma when you are quoting instead of billing. Everyday Indian invoicing, without the accounting-suite price tag.
Add your GST rate: honestly, that’s on you
A plain-spoken note: this is not a GST compliance engine, and it doesn’t pretend to be. It will not validate your GSTIN, file your returns, or certify that your invoice satisfies every CBIC formatting rule. No free web tool can credibly promise that. What it gives you is the right fields in the right places: per-line GST %, invoice-level tax, tax subtotals, detail lines through item descriptions, and the total in words that formal Indian invoices carry. You enter your registered details and your applicable rate. The arithmetic is flawless and the PDF looks professional. For a freelancer or small business sending GST invoices to clients, that is exactly the job. Free, no account.
Is this GST invoice generator free for India?
Yes. No signup, no watermark, no limits. INR formatting, GST % fields, and UPI QR codes in the preview are all included.
Can I add GST percentage to my invoice?
Yes, per line item and at invoice level. Tax amounts calculate automatically and show as separate totals on the invoice and the PDF.
Does it generate a UPI QR code for payment?
Yes. Enable the payment QR code, choose UPI, enter your UPI ID and payee name. The on-screen preview shows a scannable code for the exact total due. The downloaded PDF lists the payment method as text.
Is this a government-compliant GST invoice?
It provides the standard fields (tax %, tax totals, itemized lines, total in words), but it doesn’t validate your GSTIN or file returns. Add your registered details and your applicable rate, and check current CBIC rules for your situation.
GST basics for freelancers
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India’s destination-based indirect tax on the supply of goods and services, administered by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). It replaced a patchwork of VAT, service tax, and excise duty when it launched on 1 July 2017, putting the whole country under one tax framework.
Since 22 September 2025, India runs on the simplified GST 2.0 rate structure approved by the 56th GST Council: two main slabs of 5% (essentials and mass-consumption items) and 18% (most goods and services), plus a 40% rate reserved for luxury and sin goods such as tobacco, pan masala, and luxury cars. The old 12% and 28% slabs no longer exist. Nil-rated essentials (including individual life and health insurance), a 3% rate on gold and jewellery, and 0.25% on rough diamonds complete the picture.
On an intra-state sale, the GST rate splits equally into CGST and SGST — an 18% invoice shows 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. On an inter-state sale, the full rate applies as IGST. Your invoice should show the tax split clearly so the buyer’s input tax credit (ITC) claim is never in doubt.
Every GST-registered business gets a GSTIN — a 15-character identifier built from the 2-digit state code, the business’s 10-character PAN, a 1-character entity number, the letter Z, and a checksum digit. Quote it on every invoice; a single wrong digit fails portal validation and can cost your buyer their ITC.
E-invoicing is mandatory for businesses whose aggregate turnover exceeds ₹5 crore in any financial year since 2017-18 — a threshold in force since 1 August 2023 and unchanged through FY 2026-27. Covered businesses must report B2B invoices to the government’s Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) to receive an Invoice Reference Number (IRN); an invoice without a valid IRN is not a valid tax invoice, and the buyer cannot claim ITC on it. Registration itself kicks in at ₹40 lakh annual turnover for goods (₹20 lakh for services) in most states.
One honest boundary: this tool gives you the right fields — per-line and invoice-level GST %, tax subtotals, and the total in words — and does the arithmetic exactly. It does not validate your GSTIN, check HSN codes, file returns, or confirm CBIC compliance. Set your own rate, quote your own GSTIN, and check current rules for your situation.
