Frequently Asked Questions
By Innvoic
Is the invoice generator really free?
Yes. Completely free, no signup, no trial period, no watermark on your PDFs. Unlimited invoices, client saving, invoice history, themes, QR payment codes in the preview, CSV export. Everything works at no cost.
Do I need to create an account or sign up?
No. There is no account system at all. Open the tool and start invoicing. No email, no password, nothing to verify.
Where is my invoice data stored?
In your browser’s local storage, on your own device. Invoices, clients, settings and drafts never leave your computer or phone. Come back in the same browser and everything is where you left it. Nothing is sent to our servers, because no server processing is involved.
How do I download my invoice as a PDF?
A: Click the Download PDF button and your invoice downloads directly as a PDF with selectable text. The result is a sharp, professional document you can email or print. If the direct download is not available, your browser’s print dialog opens as a fallback.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The tool is mobile-friendly, with a sticky download bar on small screens, touch-friendly inputs, and a signature pad that works with your finger. It runs in your mobile browser. No app to install.
Can I add tax (GST/VAT) to my invoices?
Yes. Set a tax percentage per line item, for the whole invoice, or both. Tax totals calculate automatically and show as separate, labelled totals. For India and the UK specifically, see our dedicated GST and VAT invoice generators.
Does it work for quotes and receipts too?
Yes. Switch between invoice, estimate, quote, proforma invoice and receipt with one click. Your data carries over and the layout adapts to each type.
Will my invoices sync between devices?
No. Storage is per-browser on each device, which is what keeps your data private. To move an invoice, use the share-by-link feature, download the PDF, or export your history as CSV.
How do I send an invoice to a client?
Download the PDF and attach it to your own email or message — the tool never sends mail itself. There is also a Share button that copies a link which opens the invoice pre-filled for your client; because the invoice travels inside that link, treat it like the document itself, and send a PDF instead when the contents are sensitive. These payment reminder templates cover the follow-up.
What’s the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice asks for payment: it itemizes what you did, what it costs, and when it is due. A receipt proves payment already happened. Innvoic makes both — switch the document type at the top of the tool and your details carry over. See the invoice types guide for when to use each document.
How do I create an invoice?
Add your business details, your client’s details, and one line for each service or product — description, quantity, rate. The tool calculates the subtotal, tax, and balance due as you type. Add your logo and payment details, check the live preview, and download the PDF. For the full walkthrough, see how to create an invoice.
Can I add a payment QR code to my invoice?
Yes — for PayPal.Me, Venmo, Cash App, UPI, and bank details, the tool generates a scannable QR code in the on-screen preview. The downloaded PDF lists the payment method as text. Zelle is the exception: it has no public payment link, so your Zelle email or phone prints as a plain text line instead.
What’s the catch — why is it free?
There is no hidden one. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so there is no server storing your invoices and nothing to sell. Innvoic currently makes no money; the plan is clearly labeled ads in marked slots on the site’s pages — never on your invoices or PDFs.
